Gandhi Jayanthi

Programme 1
Gandhiji Anusmaranam
The NSS Unit of our school, under its auspicious observed “Gandhi Jayanthi” day. On this day we have arranged a public meeting in which Bapooji was adorned by garlanding in his photo. The meeting was presided over by the PTA President Sri.Bavachan Kodiyampara and the key note address was delivered by the Grama Panchayath President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose. His discourse enlightened the entire student community of the school with values and culture up held by our Father of Nation through out his life. The programme is also felicitated by Ward Member Smt.Hemalatha Ravi, Puthencruz Circle Inspector of Police Sri.Manoj and Principal of this institution Smt.Susane Thomas.

Clean Campus - Safe Campus
The volunteers of NSS unit arranged a clean campus programme on the same day immediately after the public meeting. This programme was inaugurated by the Grama Panchayath President Sri. Nibu K Kuriakose. Not only the volunteers of NSS unit the entire students also extended their participation to this endeavour. The president reminded the students the need for a safe and clean campus. The cleaning programme associated with Gandhijayanthi day observation were undertaken with support and direction of our paramedical departments.

We also extended the cleaning programme to the Anganwadi and its sourounding in the adopted village on the same day. In this programme the PTA Members and Anganwadi teacher were also participated.

Nature Camp at Periyar Tiger Reserve,Vallakkadavu - Day 3

    On the third day of the camp in the early morning we went for bird watching. We were helped by Sri.Srikumar, Beat officer and a member of the tribal settlement.
    After bird watching the coordinator arranged a tribal colony visit and volunteers interacted with the tribal and learned their social, economical and cultural background.
     During this day a class was taken by Sri.Vikraman Nair, Member, Eco Development
Committee. He explained the programmes undertaken by the EDC and the need for “Pankalitha Vanaparipalanam”.

Nature Camp at Periyar Tiger Reserve,Vallakkadavu - Day 2

To understand the wild life and its surroundings in which they are living, the coordinator arranged trekking to the Manammutty mala, core zone of PTR. Beat officer Sri.Srikumar guided us.
The night session of the second day camp was taken by Sri.Rafi, Range officer trainee. In the class he has gone through the areas like climate change, causes, remedial measures to be taken.

Nature Camp at Periyar Tiger Reserve, Vallakkadavu - Day 1

As part of the NSS activity we arranged a Nature camp at Periyar Tiger Reserve –Vallakkadavu. We reached the station on 17th September at 4 PM. In the inaugural session Sri.Joseph, Forester,PTR co-ordinator of the Nature camp , delivered the orientation to the camp members. Sri. Srihari, Research officer handled the night session covering the areas of wild life sanctuaries and national parks, the need for conserving the resources and impact of deforestation.

Mini Camp - Day 2

After the routine work of a camp Sri.Muraleedharan T V (Principal NIVHSS Marampilly,State Teacher Awardee 2013) handled a session on Personality development, the art of Public Addressing and the need for an effecftive Communication skills
In the after noon session under the moderateness of Sri Paulose P.V ,former programme officer, a debate was conducted on the topic “influence of social media in the youth”. It was a lively debate.

Mini Camp - Day 1

MINI CAMP for the first year volunteers started with an inguration ceremony. The camp was inugurated by Poothirkka Grama Panchayath President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose. The Poothrikka Grama Panchayath Vice President Smt. Sindhu Baby delivered keynote address. Ward Member Smt.Hemalatha Ravi were also present in the meeting. In the meeting was presided over by the Principal Smt. Susane Thomas.
After the inaugural ceremony Sri. Biju Kombanal (NVT in chemistry GVHSS Tripunithura. DISHA programme coordinator, NSS State Awardee) began the forenoon session with ice breaking and various interesting games. In the after noon session he interacted with the volunteers. His focus of address was on Role of the student as an NSS Volunteer.

Onam Celebrations

Onam Celebrations
In connection with the Onam celebrations we arranged a general meeting which was presided over by the PTA President, Mr.Bavchn Kodiyampara. The Poothrikka Grama Panchayath Vice President Smt. Sindhu Baby delivered keynote address. Ward Member Smt.Hemalatha Ravi were also present in the meeting. Volunteers arranged a ‘Pookkalam’ on behalf of NSS, and various cultural programmes were conducted. According to the suggestions of volunteers a delicious “Ona Sadhya” was prepared. All the volunteers actively participated.

For the Teachers Day observation we arranged a general meeting which was presided over by the Principal, Smt. Susane Thomas. Volunteers addressed the teachers and expressed thanks to the teachers. They gave Teachers Day Card and bow their head for their blessings.

Orientation to the First year Volunteers

An orientation programme for the first year NSS Volunteers was arranged. Sri.Paulose P V, former programme officer of this unit, was the resource personnel. He explained about NSS, its origin, aims, motto etc. He also detailed the emblem of NSS. He also referred to the social and moral obligations that each volunteer should kept.

An orientation programme for the second year NSS Volunteers was arranged. Sri.Paulose P V, former programme officer of this unit, was the resource personnel. In his delivery note he stressed on the qualities that should be possessed by an NSS volunteer. He also explained the duties and responsibilities of an NSS Volunteer towards the society.

On request of the Anganwadi teacher and paucity of fund, we undertook the effort to make an attractive look to the Anganwadi premises by painting and cleaning it. NSS Group leaders Shija Varghese, Shibu Varghese were present in this programme.

Anganawadi Cleaning and Formation of vegetable garden

As part of social commitment in the adopted village NSS volunteers visited the Anganawadi and cleaned the entire area of Anganawadi. The NSS Unit with the guidance of Volunteers in the discipline of Agriculture (NMOG) formed a vegetable garden in the Anganawadi for their welfare. The formation of vegetable garden was inaugurated by the Poothrikka Grama panchayathu President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose, and the cleaning activity was inaugurated by the Ward Member Smt.Hemalatha Ravi. NSS group leaders Sheeja Varghese, Shibu Varghese, Paulose P.V and Agriculture teacher Shibu Paul were present in this activity.

Anumodana Meeting for Best NSS Unit

The District level best project award 2012-2014 is awarded to this NSS unit and Programme officer Sri.Paulose P.V. The NSS Unit conducted a special meeting to honor Mr.Paulose P.V, former Programmer officer which was presided over by the Principal. All staffers were present in the meeting. Grama Panchayathu president and Ward member congratulated NSS Unit and the Programme officer.

Hiroshima Day

a. Public Meeting
For observing the Hiroshima Day, we arranged a Public meeting which was presided over by the P T A President Sri.Bavachan Kodiyambara. The Poothrikka Grama Panchayath President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose delivered keynote address. Ward Member Smt.Hemalatha Ravi, VHSE Principal Smt.Susane Thomas and staffers were also present in the meeting.
b. Rally
With the intention of imparting the message of Hiroshima Day to the public we arranged a colorful rally. All students participated in this Rally carrying Placards. The rally was flagged off by the Grama Panchayath President.

Lahari Vimuktha Nadu

According to a recent report drug addiction or alcoholism is a common phenomena. It has been found that drug addiction among the adolescent boys in and around Kolenchery is on the rise. The National Service Scheme, SPC, NCC and Sauhruda club of St.Peter's V&HS School are devising new ways to abolish the menace. To achieve the above aim we arranged an awareness campaign which include: a. Public Meeting Public meeting was conducted at “Choondy Junction”, at the outskirt of Kolenchery which was presided over by the Grama Panchayathu President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose. The meeting was inaugurated by Sri.V P Sajeendran ,Kunnathu MLA. VHSE Principal Smt.Susane Thomas, staffers and Merchant Association were also present in the meeting. For the effective communication to the general public about the seriousness of drug abuse the following government officials also participated in the meeting.
i. Excise Department Sri.E.M.Jayan(Excise Inspector), Sri.Soman (Asst.Excise Inspector) and Sri.Ramanan (Civil Excise Officer) from the Excise Office, Mamala
ii. Police Department Sri. Manoj K R ( Circle inspector of Police), Sri. Raveendran (S I of police) and Several police men from Puthencruz police Station
b. Koottayottam With the intention of imparting the message to the people in and around of Kolenchery we arranged a 6 KM long “koottayottam” from “Choondy” Junction to MOSE Medical college Junction Kolenchery. In the Koottayottam of the students the presence of police officers was highly appreciatecd. Official vehicles of Police Department and Excise Department accompanied. Students distributed pamphlets to the public about drug abuse. The Koottayottam got a warm welcome by the Y’s men’s Club, Kolenchery.
c. The closing ceremony was inaugurated by the Aikkaranadu Gramapanchayath Vice President Sri.Bineesh Pulyattel. Sri. K.R Manoj, C I of police delivered speech about drug abuse, its consequences, legal aspects etc to the students.

Seminar on Organ Donation

As per the health statistics India is facing the hazard of life style diseases resulting in the damage of vital organs. Here arises the importance of organ transplantation. The act of eye donation which can be done after our death is of more significance as it wipes out the darkness from a person and his family. Considering this as a dare need we arranged a team of doctors from MOSC Medical College, Kolenchery to induce a positive attitude among the volunteers on eye donation. The volunteers were aware that each of them can give light and life to at least two persons.

Pravesanolsavam

NSS volunteers in association with SPC warmly welcomed first year VHSE students. Volunteers arranged welcome banner. They also arranged a welcome meeting which was presided over by Smt.Susane Thomas, Principal, several teachers and Volunteer Secretary Kumari.Sreelakshmi Mukundan delivered the welcome speech. At the end of the meeting volunteers gave sweets to the newcomers.

Vanamaholsavam

In this “Vanamaholsavam” week volunteers conducted intercultural operations of the tree saplings which have planted earlier and also planted new tree saplings for the earth. This helped the volunteers to realise the need of follow up of all activities that we have started.

Vayana Dinam (P N Panicker Anusmaranam)

In connection with vayanadinam, the NSS unit convened a special meeting. In the meeting Mr.Vinod M M,  teacher of this school presided over the meeting. 

Mr.Saji P V, Press reporter and Malayalam teacher, delivered the key note address. 
In his address he reminded about the contributions by Sri.P.N.Panicker for uplifting the reading habit among the public  at large. He also reminded about various social obligations that each volunteer should keep and the way of attaining them by reading different books 

Ward member Hemalatha Ravi inaugurated current years library function by distributing books to volunteers. 

On the same day, to commemorate 'Vayanadinam' reding competition for the entire students was conducted. 

In this context it would be worthwhile to mention the name of Jeemol George of II MLT, of the volunteers, who recited a poem written by herself.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of reading competition.

Cholorination of wells in adopted village

As a precautionary measure against monsoon diseases, the NSS volunteers conducted chlorination programme in the household wells in our adopted village. The volunteers spend the entire second Saturday for imparting awareness among the villagers regarding the precautions to be taken against monsoon disease and also distributed leaflets for the same. Poothrikka Gramapanchayath President Sri.Nibu K Kuriakose formally inaugurated the Chlorination activity, Ward Member Hemalatha Ravi, Sri.Paulose P.V, former programme officer, Vinod M M, Shija Varghese, Shibu Varghese of this school participated in this programe.

Awareness Programme –  Monsoon Diseases

This programme was conducted in association with Poothrikka Public Health Centre. Health Inspectors Sri.Sreekanth and Sri.Sudheesh took classes to the volunteers about the various monsoon diseases and the causes of the same. They explained various precautionary measures to be taken against the spread of this type of iseases. They emphasised on the need of mosquito eradication and suggest possible ways to eradicate the same. They also trained the volunteers about chlorination methodology.
